Pet rock
In the early 1970s, Gary Dahl was hanging out with his friends. They were complaining about cleaning up after their pets. A jokester, Dahl created the Pet Rock as a gag gift, replete with pun-filled instruction guidebook, in 1975. Within half a year Dahl made about $15 million, adjusted for inflation.
