Until you plan everything out, planning is nothing. And while most retirees plan to retire and stop working, many end up working again.
More than a third of retirees who vow to never work again end up working again post-retirement for a variety of reasons.
If that sounds like it might be you, here are five side hustle opportunities for part-time work post-retirement.
Online teacher
If you have decades of experience in the education field, you can leverage that experience into a career as an online teacher. It’s OK if you don’t have any experience, but you will be starting out at a lower pay rate relative to experienced teachers.
All you need to become an online teacher is a laptop, a quiet room and fast reliable internet. The typical pay is about $20 per hour. The more experience you have in education, the better your potential for higher pay.
And you can work from home on your own schedule. Online learning is booming. On Udemy, for instance, you can design your online courses and be paid for it. Or you can teach students via sites such as Outschool and Varsity Tutors.
Petsitter
You could make $12 per hour starting out as a pet sitter. If you have the patience to watch more than one animal at once, you could make serious bucks with a part-time hustle.
There is such demand for pet sitters that people sign up on pet sitting services looking for them.
Check out Care.com, Rover.com, and Fetch.com to find pet sitting job opportunities near you.
Music teacher
If you are a musician, especially a multi-instrumentalist, you can teach children music and make a few bucks on the side.
You can teach at home, rent a space, or teach online. A typical music teacher makes $35 per hour or better.
Rent a Friend
It’s an odd need, but loneliness is endemic around the world. Now, there are services like Rent a Friend, where you rent your time and services as a strictly platonic hangout friend.
You can befriend a stranger in a public and social setting or you can even be a virtual friend online. And you can get paid $10 per hour to do this.
Graphic designer
If you have experience as a graphic designer your starting pay can be $24 per hour. If you have the resume and experience to back it up, you can command more than that.
You can work at home and on your own schedule. But you will have to scour online gig economy job sites like Craigslist or Indeed regularly to secure enough work.
