You do not have to be a high net-worth individual to be able to invest in a business. You can easily invest in a small business of your choice through a crowdfunding platform, for instance. You can invest as little as a few hundred dollars and become a partial owner of the company. Since a small business can be a risky investment you can invest small sums in a number of businesses rather than investing a large amount in a single business.
