A buyers’ market
Automakers enjoyed making the higher margin SUVs, but dealers’ inventories are now top-heavy and demand is waning. In May, the average vehicle sat on the lot for 71 days, compared to 63 days from the same period last year and only 51 days in 2015. Discounts and sales promotions are on the rise.
Oversupply has left a plethora of models available that dealers can’t move off their lots. Consumers can now expect to receive or more easily negotiate enticing discounts from dealers on most any model of their choice.
