Science takes time
Scientific advances require incalculable amounts of money and sacrifice. Gene editing technologies will take decades to be perfected. The first genetically designed humans may be simply proof-of-concept experiments. They may exist solely to improve upon future generations by passing on genes, rather than revolutionizing society in a generation.
