Hawaii’s leprosy exile exemption

As odd as it sounds, this is a real and currently viable tax exemption.

Hawaiian tax code provides a $50,000 taxation exemption from the property value of residents suffering from leprosy.

The exemption is a form of legal amends for a banishment practice in place before 1969. Any Hawaiian suffering from leprosy once was banished to remote part of the island of Molokai.
