Make biweekly payments
Rather than making one payment every month, split it into two payments and pay it twice a month. For example, if your monthly mortgage payment is $1,000, you pay $500 every two weeks.
Since there are 52 weeks in a year, you will be making 26 payments — or 13 full payments — every year. This is the biggest advantage of a biweekly payment schedule, as it allows you to pay one additional payment every year without even realizing it.
It should be noted that some lenders do not accept biweekly payments and only allow you to make monthly payments. In such cases, you can open a new bank account, deposit a half-payment every other week, and use the money for your monthly mortgage payments.
For example, if you deposit $500 every other week into your account, you will be left with $1,000 by the end of the year, which you can use to make an extra principal payment.
