7-Eleven

Jefferson Green launched his ice house business in Prohibition-era Dallas, Texas circa 1927. Post-prohibition, Green began selling alcohol and named his business Tote’M Stores in 1937. Tote’M eventually became the Southland Ice Company and then 7-Eleven in 1946. Seven & I Holdings, a Japanese real estate corporation, bought 7-Eleven in 2005 for $1 billion.
