A fortune lost to ignorance and fraud
Florida natives Alex and Rhoda Toth won $13 million in 1990. The Toths spent tens of thousands on lavish trips and gambling. Then the Toths tried to hide gambling losses and owed millions in back taxes. They were charged with tax fraud in 2006. Alex died penniless in 2008 and Rhoda spent two years in prison.
