The Reed Gold Mine is in Charlotte, North Carolina. Its importance to American history can’t be understated. Gold-panning actually began here in 1799 when Conrad Reed found a 17-pound gold nugget while walking along Little Meadow Creek. The gold rush of the West didn’t begin until 1848. Admission is only $2 per person.
