New mega malls aren’t being built
From the 1950s to the early 2000s, mall shopping and mall life was ascendant. More than 1,500 indoor malls were built from 1956 to 2005. Now there are less than 700 of anchor malls left. No new indoor, super-sized anchor mall has been built in the United States since 2006.
