Driving everywhere
According to American Automobile Association, it costs the average American about $9,000 in gas expenses to drive on an annual basis. There is no need to drive everywhere. Get in the habit of walking if you can when running local errands. Take mass transit or bike whenever possible. Make a list of situations for when driving is warranted.
