Sonnenfeld, who has studied corporate governance and leadership for decades, was unsparing in his criticism. He described Tesla’s financial situation as the technology sector’s “worst disaster” that “a lot of us can remember in a long time.” It is particularly so because of the kind of market cap that Tesla commands (close to $45b). Sonnenfeld said that it is not that Musk has “just dramatically failed in expectations but it’s that he set these expectations himself.”
